QS 9000

Secure access to America's leading car manufacturers
To achieve QS-9000 , suppliers need to define, document, implement and maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) which satisfies.
  • ISO 9000 based requirements: this section contains supplemental requirements to ISO 9000 and specific interpretations of certain clauses
  • Customer specific requirements: this section contains requirements specific to Daimler-Chrysler, Ford and General Motors
Where required by customers, suppliers without current ISO 9000 certification will need to seek ISO 9000 certification in accordance with the requirements of QS-9000: Third Edition and in accordance with QS-9000 Appendix B "Code of Practice".

Suppliers with ISO 9000 certification have to meet two criteria -
  • Their QMS must include all QS-9000 interpretations and supplements.
  • Their QMS must be reassessed against the additional requirements of QS-9000.
Notice - All QS-9000 certificates will expire effective December 14, 2006. QS-9000 is being replaced by ISO/TS 16949 for U.S. Automakers. On December 15, 2003, ISO 9000:1994 will no longer be a certifiable standard (replaced by ISO 9000:2000). QS-9000 will become a stand-alone certificate -if you desire to be ISO 9000 certified, you will have to upgrade separately to ISO 9000:2000.

The Automotive Supplier Quality Requirements Task Force recommends that suppliers upgrade to ISO/TS 16949:2002 at the end of their current QS-9000 certification and states that individual OEM's may specify particular dates for certification to ISO/TS 16949 earlier than 2006 (e.g. Daimler-Chrysler deadline is July 1, 2004).
